SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY: This vacancy of Head of St Stithians Junior Preparatory was created following the planned retirement of the Founding Head of the Junior Preparatory at the end of 2015 .The Head leads a school of 480 children in Grades R -2 with a staff complement of 45 which includes onsite external therapists and teacher interns. The successful incumbent will assume responsibility for leading the Junior Preparatory in a strategic, as well as day-to-day management of the school.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS OF THE HEAD’S ROLE INCLUDE:

  •  Execute the Junior Preparatory strategy in alignment with the College strategy
  • Determine, develop and role model the values and culture of the Junior Preparatory
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the staff and parents in a creative learning environment

  • Ensure that the foundation of children’s education remains at the core of all decisions while adhering to the strategy of the College

  • Provide appropriate opportunities for both co-education and single-sex education, in combination

  • Promote educational and institutional synergies among the schools of St Stithians



ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION



  •  Significant experience as an educational leader of a dynamic learning community
  • Strong emotional intelligence, strategic visionary acumen and drive coupled with the ability to work with, and lead, others
  • A solid and progressive understanding of the opportunities and challenges of leading and managing a South African school in the 21st century in the context of national transformation
  • A role model of Christian witness and leadership through service with the ability to work within the values, ethos and mission of the College



SPECIFIC QUALITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL INCLUDE:

  •  A suitable professional qualification and significant educational leadership experience, in a dynamic learning community
  • Previous experience in a senior leadership position within an Independent Preparatory School. Useful to have had exposure to Foundation Phase education
  • Energetic, strong work ethic and integrity
  • Acknowledged academic standing and the ability to take dynamic and effective leadership decisions
  • Solid knowledge and experience of corporate governance principles
  • The ability to develop, foster and sustain appropriate partnerships and positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders and promote synergies in the educational experiences of the schools of St Stithians College
  • Excellent people and communication skills
  • Ability to role model the attributes of a servant leader
  • A high level of organisational, managerial, and administrative skills
  • Proof of registration with SACE and sexual offender’s clearance certificate
