POSITION: Professor of Finance

  NATURE OF BUSINESS: Wits Business School

 JOB LOCATION: Parktown, Johannesburg


SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY: Take up the HSBC Africa Chair in Banking and Financial Markets, and assume the following responsibilities: 

  • Conduct and publish high level research in the area of banking and financial markets

  • Teach a number of Finance courses at the Business School

  • Assist in the School’s Executive Education initiative

  • Supervise Masters and Doctoral student research

  • Assist in the administration of the Business School

  • Enhance the Business School’s reputation and standing through the maintenance and expansion of relationships with the Chair’s sponsor, and potential future sponsors, through private meetings and public forums

  • Help to organise, and participate in, conferences

  • Communicate with the media




  • PhD (Finance or Economics) as a minimum

  • Acknowledged academic standing and a body of published work in credible international journals

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in educational leadership and lecturing

  • Knowledge of, and experience in, the banking and financial markets sectors

  • A senior leadership position within a tertiary environment would be a distinct advantage

  • Experience within a relevant corporate environment would also be advantageous
