SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:

To assume responsibility and accountability for the financial health and governance of the company, ensuring the provision of world class financial management to enable the organization to achieve its operational and strategic goals and initiatives, in compliance with regulatory and legal requirements 

GROUP BACKGROUND: The major listed consumer retail organisation has an annual turnover in the billions; has in excess of 1,000 stores and more than 10 brands throughout southern Africa; and employs several thousand people.

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • At least 10 to 15 years post-qualifying experience with a minimum of five years in an similar position or a Divisional Chief Financial of an organisation with a turnover of at least ZAR3 billion  
  • Chartered Accountant qualification is essential. A post graduate business degree would be preferable, but is not essential  
  • Must be technical strong, particularly in understanding credit, treasury and taxation, and be skilled in negotiation of all aspects of local and international transactions 
  • The ability to translate business strategy into actionable financial plans  
  • Retail experience an advantage but not a pre-requisite. Experience may have been gained in corporate finance/banking environment or retail auditing  
  • Important to have had experience in an emerging market environment as well as Global market experience

  • Outstanding technical, financial, legal and secretariat skills, commercially astute and profit oriented  
  • Acknowledged as an individual of stature and having a high degree of credibility in the market  
  • Be ambitious with and prepared to build a career with the company, and committed to the long term and being part of driving the future of the business. Ideally in 35 to 40 age bracket  
  • Excellent strategic and visionary skills, coupled with exceptional people and motivational abilities  
  • An independent self starter; analytically innovative, with the capacity to drive and deliver on new ideas 
  • Extremely bright, numerate, with a direct communication style (verbal and written)
