POSITION SUMMARY:

To advise the Group's Executive Committee and Board of Directors on all matters related to regulatory risk, governance, compliance and legal. To proactively engage with the National Government and Regulatory Entities including the SARB and the Financial Services Board. To direct and lead the legal, governance and compliance teams throughout the Group.

KEY ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Must have at least 15 years post qualifying experience in a commercial, legal or financial services compliance environment
  • 10 years at Partner/Director level in a leading law firm
  • Extensive senior management experience
  • Financial services experience; ideally someone who has had experience in dealing with the South African Reserve Bank and the Financial Services Board
  • Must have knowledge of financial services and tax regulations and corporate governance guidelines and regulations

KEY JOB PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • To advise the Group's Executive Committee on all legal and compliance matters, and to ensure the effective implementation of the Legal Risk policies of the Group across all business units
  • To lead and mentor the Legal and Compliance Teams of the Group, building a pipeline of future senior leaders in the Group
  • To collaborate with Group Executive Committee peers to develop strategic objectives, and anticipate global trends related to Legal, Regulatory and Compliance concerns and identify probable impacts on the Group
  • To manage Business Risk by acting as the Business Principal Risk Owner in respect of the Regulatory and Legal Principal Risks in accordance with the Group's principal risk policy
