JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg

REPORTS TO: Senior Manager: Finance

TOTAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITY: 10/15 people

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY: Assume responsibility for the following processes: accounts receivable; intercompany accounting; cost accounting; fixed assets and projects accounting; joint venture accounting; tax accounting, value added taxation, royalty; cash and payroll accounting; employee expense management accounting; period end accounting; internal control and performance of controls (in compliance with Group requirements including Group reporting and Sarbanes Oxley); preparing evaluations; reporting and compliance functions

GROUP BACKGROUND: The Mining Group is a Division of a leading listed global resources company. The division has three mining operations in South Africa, employs in excess of 4 000 permanent staff and 6 000 contractors and has an annual turnover of US$2 billion.

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Must be a Chartered Accountant (SA)
  • Should have a minimum of six years experience, post articles, in the finance division of a head office of a mining group or on a mine
  • Should have a thorough knowledge of South African tax regulations, be competent in International Financial Reporting Standards, with good knowledge of financial accounting as well as strong experience in SAP
  • Ideally should have managed a finance team of at least five people
  • Must be prepared to work very long hours
