SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:

Responsibility and authority for the effective leadership and profitable management of the South African subsidiary company so as to achieve a financial performance which is in line with agreed Group objectives with particular emphasis on: setting and implementing short and long term business strategy, executing business plan, direction and goals in line with the Group strategy; identifying and implementing best practices; ensuring excellent client service; and substantially increasing new business in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa profitably

 

REPORTS TO:

European, Middle East and Africa Regional Executive Non-Executive Chairman, South Africa

 

GROUP BACKGROUND:

Local Subsidiary of Multinational Insurance Company

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Must have at least ten years experience in an insurance or financial services company or an insurance brokerage
  • Must have had profit and loss responsibility for division/company with an annual turnover/premium income of at least R250 million
  • Must have grown a business and have a good network of contacts in both South Africa and in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Should have a working knowledge of life, health, property and casualty insurance as well as mergers and acquisitions
  • Proven experience of dealing with brokers and clients
  • Working knowledge of Reinsurance
  • A good understanding of the market place and broker distribution channels

KEY JOB PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Ensure that the South African  Subsidiary Company achieves and sustains planned growth rates and underwriting profit as set out in the Business Plan
  • Strategic and operational leadership of the South African Subsidiary Company
  • Ensure the company has the appropriate level of resources and skills to achieve its business results with succession plans in place
  • Oversee the development and implementation of marketing and distribution strategies and plans
  • Significant involvement in major and high profile underwriting and business issues
  • Establish credibility and expand existing profitable relationships with the company’s key brokers and customers
  • Ensure Regulatory functions are conducted by appropriately skilled and experienced staff
  • Oversee progress towards financial objectives and ensure appropriate corrective actions are taken when required to achieve targets
