Government Relations / Investor Relations Executive

REPORTS TO: Chief Financial Officer/ Chief Operating Officer

 

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: CSI, Enterprise Development, Investor Relations and Media Budgets

 

TOTAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITY: 4 people

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

As Spokesperson for the Group with African responsibility, develop and drive the communications strategy to raise the Group's profile and support its record of achievement. Make professional presentations and be integrally involved in every communication with key internal and external stakeholders including the media, corporate social investment (CSI) and government relations; enhance the Group's brand to create and communicate a strong corporate identity; and provide the management of the operations with strategic counsel, energetic leadership, creative and innovative vision; and effectively deliver in the total arena of Public Affairs and improve the relationship with regulatory and industry bodies.

 

KEY ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • University graduate, ideally in communications, commerce, politics, law or economics
  • At least ten years' experience within an economics, health economics, marketing, business or brand development environment
  • Track record of influencing others, networking, building relationships and opening doors for the Chief Executive Officer and other members of the Exco of a large organisation in a regulated industry
  • Must have a track record of positive relationships with government, ideally in the healthcare sector
  • Experience of influencing and developing legislation and negotiating with government at all levels
  • Ideal to have a working knowledge of healthcare legislation, Government healthcare structures and the pharmaceutical industry

KEY JOB PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Gain immediate acceptance by the Board and members of the executive and management teams as an individual of professional integrity, sound business knowledge and capabilities, and an individual with a conceptual and strategic focus
  • Maintain and manage dialogue through regular face to face contact with key players in the relevant South African national and provincial governmental agencies to identify, lobby, influence and promote the Group's interests on issues relevant to the Group and its businesses in southern Africa
  • Work with the Executive Team as necessary to achieve objectives
  • Pro-actively monitor, identify and advise on any potential, new and amended regulations in South Africa and elsewhere in Africa that are likely to affect the Group and its businesses and brief management accordingly
  • Work with external consultants on the efficient and relevant monitoring, identification and strategic management of potential and new regulatory issues when necessary
  • Promote the public affairs function and participate in the Group's CSI work and its public policy engagement on CSI and Transformation mandate
