POSITION: Group Head of Human Resources

NATURE OF BUSINESS: Financial Services

JOB LOCATION: Blantyre, Malawi (There is a strong likelihood that the position will relocate to Mauritius by late 2019)

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer



SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY: Assume accountability and responsibility for the Group’s Human Resources function with particular emphasis on: developing and implementing human resources strategies to support business and human resources needs; providing strategic human resources leadership to the board, executive management and the human resources division of each entity; building organisational capability and implementing key human resources initiatives in the Group’s operations in Malawi, Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe whilst striving for long term sustainability for the Group.



  • At least fifteen years’ experience in a generalist human resources role at a Senior Executive level within a financial services institution or other regulated environment that has a multi-country operations structure.
  • Preference for someone who is currently leading the Group Human Resources function.
  • Must have had experience in leading Human Resource Managers and should have managed a staff complement of at least ten people.
  • Should have developed and implemented strategies and processes for talent management, capability development, succession planning, career management and leadership development.
  • Should have experience in expatriate remuneration and services.



  • A hands-on team player and leader who has good interpersonal skills, is able to influence and persuade others.
  • Professional and confident bearing with maturity and gravitas, able to establish personal rapport and be respected by other members of the executive committee and to relate to people at all levels in an organization.
  • Good facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as an ability to listen.
  • Good negotiating and conflict handling skills.
  • Must be willing to travel and be internationally mobile.
