A wholly owned division of a JSE listed investment holding company, our client conducts the business of selling, renting and distributing office automation and consumer electronics products. The company's distribution network consists of 13 branches located in all the major centres. The company has a staff complement of 375 employees and a turnover of R200 million.

 

 

Job Summary:

 

Reporting to the Managing Director and as a member of the Executive Committee, the Business Development Manager will be responsible for growing market share by improving on existing practices and processes as well as diversifying the business by identifying other products and brands that can be distributed through the distribution footprint and delivering on the initiative.

  • Determine in conjunction with Managing Director objectives for market development for the immediate, medium and long term.
  • Identify, investigate and exploit new business opportunities and assume responsibility for their successful development and implementation.
  • Work actively to bring new business into the division, become a rain-maker and contribute to the overall growth, development and success of the division.
  • Market the division as a significant player in the Office Automation and Consumer Electronics arena by capitalising on its key strengths.
  • Establish sound relationships with existing client companies and develop marketing strategies and plans to attract new business

 

Key Attributes Required:

  • At least 10 years' experience in business development in the Office Automation or Consumer Electronics Industries, the last 3 of which must have been in a senior management level position.
  • Brand building experience will be useful.
  • Strong negotiating skills and ability.
  • Ability to respond to regional differences within the client base, developing effective strategies that recognise them
  • Track record of successful business generation.
  • Ability to develop excellent relationships with customers at all levels.
  • Self starter; able to motivate and enthuse others.
  • Hands-on team leader and player, good in people management.
  • Highly computer literate.
  • Potential to move into a general management role in 3-4 years' time.
