POSITION: Deputy Head (Academic), King David High School, Victory Park

JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg

REPORTS TO: Head of High School, King David Victory Park and General Director South African Board of Jewish Education

DIRECT SUBORDINATES: Ten Heads of Departments and Five Grade Heads (Directors)

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY: Special responsibility for theSchool’s academic curriculum, its administration, timetabling, direction and assessment together with the professional development of the teaching staff and the promotion of learning. Assisting and supporting the Headmaster in all academic matters, being the first point of contact for the academic staff, dealing withparents regarding assessments and subject choices for their children, liaising extensivelywith the IEB and other external bodies while looking after the matriculation portfolio, and keeping up to date on educational policies and assessmentrequirements

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Appropriate Tertiary Qualification and subject experience to teach two to three classes at the IEB Matriculation level with a good understanding and knowledge of Higher Education
  • An impressive track record ofdisplaying intellectual and academic excellence
  • An established and effective network in education
  • Ideally have been a Deputy Head of School role for at least two to three years, or alternately been a Subject Head or Grade Head in a senior educational institution
  • Must be able to conduct teacher appraisals
  • Essential to have exposure to international benchmarking and best practice
  • Must be a qualified assessor and moderator
