POSITION: Chief Financial Officer

NATURE OF BUSINESS: a leading chemicals manufacturing company

JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg

REPORTS TO: Chief Executive Officer

 

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:

Assume responsibility for managing the financial wellbeing of the Group which includes: financial planning, management of financial risks, record-keeping and financial reporting. Particular emphasis is on providing insight and analysis to support the Chief Executive Officer in ensuring that business decisions are grounded in sound financial criteria. The role and responsibility of the Chief Financial Officer also includes overseeing the IT function

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • At least ten years of progressively responsible financial experience culminating in leading the finance function for a major company or division of a large corporation in themanufacturing sector
  • Must be a qualified CA(SA), MBA preferred
  • SAP experience and the ability to oversee organisation’s IT systems is essential
  • Must have been involved in at least one business turnaround

 

KEY JOB PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • An urgent turn-around is required for the Group. Over and above the traditional CFO monitoring and controllership responsibilities, the CFO will give key focus to reducing costs, improving efficiency and becoming a better strategic partner to the business
  • The CFO needs to be the voice of caution in the face of poor strategies and business decisions that are short term and detrimental to shareholder value in the long run, prioritising the re-engineering and transformation of Finance to lead a business turn-around
  • The uncertain, dynamic and global economic environment in which the company operates has necessitated a shift in the CFO role from that of a “number cruncher” or “financial forecaster”, to that of a Business Leader and strategist, who will be able to transform the Finance function into a flexible and responsive partner that will produce business value
