POSITION: Managing Director

NATURE OF BUSINESS: Specialist suppliers of tools and equipment

JOB LOCATION: Randfontein (company could relocate to Johannesburg in the future)

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY: Responsibility and authority for the effective leadership and profitable management of the group with particular emphasis on: creating, developing and implementing a vision, strategic direction and momentum to build on the potential and profitability that has been created; improving operational efficiencies; growing the group organically and by synergistic acquisitions; developing new business opportunities in both products and markets as well as in e-commerce; and creating an ethos of excellence and desire for continuous improvement and growth in the company


  • At least 10 years’ experience as Managing Director /Executive Director of a company which supplies industrial equipment and consumables to end-users in the mining, heavy industrial, power generation and municipal sectors

  • Must have been responsible for a company/division which has multiple branches, annual revenues of at least R300 million and a staff complement of more than 150 people

  • Strong commercial acumen is required with experience in acquiring businesses and integrating them operationally

  • Should ideally be between 40 to 55 with regard to the minimum years of experience required for the position

  • Ideally a graduate with a Bachelor of Commerce or similar commercial degree. A Master of Business Administration degree would be advantageous



  • Determine strategic objectives and operating criteria for the immediate, medium and long term in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer of the Engineering Consumables Group

  • Enable and drive growth across the group in terms of five year and shorter-term plans

  • Streamline the group’s statutory structure and migrate all businesses onto a single ERP platform

  • Conduct performance reviews for each subsidiary company / division, evaluating performance against established objectives, plans and budgets, with a strong strategic orientation

  • Establish credibility and expand existing relationships with the organisation’s key customers and suppliers

  • Grow the Company organically as well as by acquisitions which add synergy to its activities and increase profitability and enhance overall success
