JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg
REPORTS TO: Zone Director, Middle East and Africa, Parent Company and Board of Directors
TOTAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITY: 300 people
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: €40 million (R400 million) revenue
COMPANY BACKGROUND:
The South African company is a subsidiary of a Global Lighting Manufacturing Company. It manufactures and supplies lighting products to customers in South Africa and on the African continent. The company employs 300 people.
SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:
Assume responsibility and authority for the effective leadership and profitable management of the company with particular emphasis on: developing the business, successfully driving the technological changes and contributing to the future development of the company
- Managing on a day-to-day basis a team of highly qualified professionals, who are themselves responsible for specific departments
- Defining the overall strategy of the company, together with the Parent Group, and implementing this strategy at every level including sales & marketing, production, finance and human resources
- Conducting a critical review of the organisation particularly the sales model and the operating and production style and focusing clearly on the most important priorities.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Should ideally have a Electronics, Civil, or Electrical Engineering degree. A post-graduate business/management qualification would be advantageous
KEY ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
- At least ten years experience as General/Divisional Manager of a company which manufactures and sells technical equipment.
- Must have a successful track record of sales to the public sector
- Must have a working knowledge of technical products, ideally electronic or lighting products
- Should ideally have managed a minimum staff complement of 150 people and have had profit and loss responsibility for a division or company with an annual turnover of at least R100 million
- Experience in a multinational group would be advantageous
- Must be fluent in English and should ideally speak or understand some other South African languages and French
- Very good commercial skills in addition to a technical understanding
- Excellent leadership skills
- A self-starter who can take the initiative and operate independently
- Should ideally be a South African citizen
- Must be willing to travel locally and internationally when required
- Business and results driven; understanding the commercial implications for the growth of the Southern African market
