SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:  

Responsible for the overall leadership of the Group Legal and Compliance function in support of the strategic goals of the Group.  Responsible for coordinating and assisting in the management of the Group’s legal affairs including various contracts, regulatory issues, intellectual property issues, conducting research, drafting legal documents, and assisting in negotiations as directed. To manage all legal issues for the Group, this includes serving as liaison with outside legal counsel. The Senior Executive shall be responsible for ensuring that all business activities are conducted with the highest standards of integrity and ethics and enforcing the Company’s guidelines during on-going projects and matters. 

• Lead and manage a team that supports the Board and CEO in material legal and commercial matters for the Company 

• Support other Executive Committee members and their functions and portfolio’s as trusted and strategic business partners to ensure effective running of Regions and key areas 

• Provide legal oversight of issues related to mining licenses, risk management, and contracts, agreements, and related matters; provide advice and representation concerning participation and interaction with government institutions as they relate to the Company 

• To support the Operations Legal and Compliance Departments with respect to compliance matters that affect commercial operations, including environmental, health & safety, regulatory (including Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, etc.) areas and play a proactive role in implementation and internal training in these and other relevant areas 

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED: 

• A minimum of fifteen years of legal practice experience in a mining or related field, having attained a senior position of responsibility in firm, corporation, government agency, or other organization that employs him or her. 

• 10 Years legal experience with an emphasis on advising Management on a wide variety of matters. 

• Should ideally be familiar with the requirements of the Johannesburg and New York Stock Exchanges 

• Experience in major law firm multinational firm is required 

• Have experience dealing with and interacting with Regulators and stakeholders applicable to the Mining Industry  

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Admitted Attorney with a LLB Degree or other appropriate legal qualification 

• Higher Diploma (Tax) or Higher Diploma (Company Law) would be advantageous
