POSITION: Financial Director, Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA)

NATURE OF BUSINESS: a leading chemicals manufacturing company

JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg, Gauteng

REPORTS TO: Head of Commercial Finance (directly) and Managing Director, SSA (indirectly)

FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: in excess of R2.7 billion

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:

Assume responsibility for providing financial advisory leadership and direction within the region with specific emphasis on local and regional financial requirements to ensure the firm’s financial operations, transactions, assets and investments are effectively managed in line with the short- and long-term business and profitability objectives of the firm. A key component of the responsibilities include the contribution to the development of the firm’s overall strategy and, in particular, to partner cross functionally and within the region to achieve the sustainable and competitive growth of the business. Furthermore, he/she is accountable for treasury management for the group of entities within the region including management of the finance department and performance of the outsourced transactional finance operations of the company.

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Must have had at least 10 years post-qualifying experience in a financial leadership role of which 5 years must be at executive/strategic level in Sub-Sahara African businesses and markets
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate governance and risk management best practices
  • Must have an analytical mind with a strong strategic ability
  • Responsible for the financial reporting, budget process, forecasts, cashflow management, financial planning and detailed financial analysis to facilitate decision making
  • Must have demonstrable practical understanding of MS Office, SAP and Finance systems
  • Must have demonstrable experience in M&A as well as the management of joint ventures
  • Must have demonstrable experience in driving operational excellence in setting, implementing and monitoring compliance to finance policies and guidelines
  • Must have managed a Finance staff complement of more than 20 team members
  • Should have gained experience within a global organisation and portray the ability to work in a matrix structure
  • Willingness to travel occasionally at a local and international level
  • Excellent organisational, project management and leadership skills
