POSITION: General Manager

NATURE OF BUSINESS: A leading manufacturer of industrial products

JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg

REPORTING TO: Chief Operations Officer

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:

The incumbent will support the Chief Operations Officer to communicate and drive the organizational vision and operational strategy. Oversee and optimise company operations inclusive of; planning, procurement, manufacturing, fabrication, warehousing, and logistics. They will ensure that sound engineering, quality assurance and maintenance principles are achieved. Engage and enable employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture where team members thrive and organisational outcomes are met by providing motivation and general direction for employees. They will drive lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles in all departments with a strong focus on customer value. Provide input to, and assist the Chief Operations Officer with the strategic initiative to develop and implement a Roadmap to leap from the current state to an IR4 organisation. As General Manager, they may delegate projects and follow-up to ensure that team members are on-schedule and deadlines are being met. Ensure that governance, legal, health, and safety requirements are met, and enforce compliance by taking action when necessary

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Relevant Bachelors Degree in Industrial Engineering, or relevant field in operations process and system optimisation
  • Lean Manufacturing qualification will be an advantage
  • Minimum of ten years’ experience in an operational leadership role in a product manufacturing organisation which supplies goods and consumables to major industries including medical, power generation, mining, petrochemical, motor, construction, food, paper and steel sectors
  • Must have previous experience in developing & implementing Continuous Improvement teams & principles
  • Experience in in developing & implementing cost effective IR4.0 processes & systems
  • Must have managed large teams
  • Good financial understanding, with a sound knowledge of budgeting and strategic planning. Must display experience in coping with the financial complexity of the business and understanding impacts on profit and loss and balance sheet
  • Advantageous to have had experience in a multi-national organisation but be comfortable operating in a flat structure
  • Experience in working with ERP systems
