NATURE OF BUSINESS: Luxury Travel and Tourism
JOB LOCATION: KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
REPORTING TO: Board of Directors

 

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:  The General Manager Commercial, in collaboration with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, will develop, influence, lead and execute the business development strategy, brand, and business plan that will deliver the Group’s aspiration.

They will be responsible for brand strength, business development, sales, marketing and revenue growth, as well as commercial viability and financial sustainability across all non-operational functions of the Game Reserve as a premium conservation and tourism destination. These responsibilities include a focus on designing the business development strategy, sales and marketing execution, trade shows, ensuring sustainability and compliance with generally accepted principles of administrative, commercial practice, being an ambassador in the tourism sector, and providing conceptual leadership to the commercial elements of the organisation

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in a senior commercial leadership position, ideally in luxury travel and tourism
  • Proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary commercial teams (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Resources, etc.)
  • Extensive experience in luxury tourism and conservation-driven tourism 
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to critically assess the risk to and opportunities for the organisation
  • Deep understanding of customer segmentation, branding, digital marketing, and partnership models
  • Strong financial acumen and competency, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management as well as budgeting and general financial monitoring and reporting
  • Strong Board-level exposure and experience reporting to the executive or organisational governance structures

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Finance, Tourism, or a related field (e.g. biodiversity, environmental or conservation sectors)
  • MBA or relevant Master’s degree (advantageous)
