Chief Executive Officer, Mining Contracting Industry

POSITION: Chief Executive Officer
NATURE OF BUSINESS: Mining Contracting Industry
JOB LOCATION: Significant East African Economy
REPORTING TO: Chair and Board of Directors

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
The CEO, in collaboration with the Executive Committee, Group Executives and Group Board of Directors, will develop, influence and provide strategic, commercial, and operational leadership to the organisation. This individual will be responsible for brand positioning, driving business growth, ensuring commercial viability, sustainable profitability and operational excellence, whilst maintaining high safety and compliance standards, and positioning the company as a partner of choice in the mining and civils sector. The CEO will also play a critical role in stakeholder engagement and business development, with a focus on expanding the organisation’s project pipeline.

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum 10 years’ senior commercial leadership experience within the mining services, heavy civils or construction industry (ideally across Multi-African markets)
  • Strong Board-level exposure and highly experienced in stakeholder management, especially managing clients, service providers, sub-contractors and government officials
  • Very strong commercial acumen and the ability to critically assess the risk to and opportunities for the organisation, including commercial viability and yield underpinning tendering processes and sustainable growth
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale mining or civil projects
  • Intimate knowledge of contract mining operations and processes as well as bulk handling and hauling services
  • Strong experience in driving organisational growth, business development, and managing tender processes
  • Demonstrate a strong comprehension of plant and equipment maintenance management
  • Demonstrated financial management expertise, including budgeting, forecasting, margin management and cost control
  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and compliance in mining and civil sector environments
  • Strong experience in creating and fostering a co-operative and collaborative management style and culture


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (essential)
  • Postgraduate qualification (MBA or equivalent) preferred
