Cyber Security Lead, Leading Mining Group

POSITION: Cyber Security Lead 

NATURE OF BUSINESS: Leading Mining Group 

JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg, South Africa

REPORTING TO: Chief Information Officer 

 

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:  

The Cyber Security Lead will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive information and cyber security strategy across the Group. This individual will ensure the protection of critical infrastructure, operational technologies (OT), and information systems against internal and external threats, all whilst ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with business objectives. The role requires a balance of strategic foresight, technical depth, and practical governance to embed cyber resilience within the organisation’s culture and operations.

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED: 

  • Minimum 10–15 years’ experience in information security, with at least 5 in a leadership capacity. 

  • Demonstrated success in designing and implementing enterprise-level cybersecurity programs. 

  • Ideally have experience managing security operations across multiple geographic sites and remote operations.

  • Proven track record in either industrial and mining environments or other sectors with significant cybersecurity needs. 

  • Significant experience in risk-related aspects including: 

    • Protects critical infrastructure and operational continuity by preventing, detecting, and responding to cyber incidents that could disrupt operations, supply chains, or safety systems. 
    • Mitigates financial, regulatory, and reputational exposure arising from data breaches, ransomware attacks, or system compromise, ensuring compliance with legal and industry standards. 
    • Integrates cyber risk into enterprise risk management, providing the Board and Exco with visibility and assurance on emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and residual risks. 
    • Strengthens resilience across IT (Information Technology) and OT (Operational Technology) environments, ensuring that security controls, governance, and recovery capabilities minimise downtime and operational loss in the event of a breach. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems,  

  • Professional certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, or equivalent. 

  • Certified Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC) – ISACA (Recommended/Desirable)
