General Manager - Operations, Luxury Hospitality Sector

JOB LOCATION: KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
REPORTING TO: Board of Directors

 

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:  The General Manager – Operations will be responsible for the overall day-to-day management and strategic oversight of the operations, ensuring operational excellence across conservation, hospitality, infrastructure, health and safety, and community engagement functions. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, this role will lead a multidisciplinary on-site team to deliver a premium guest experience while safeguarding the reserve’s ecological integrity and sustainability objectives. Working closely with the Executive Committee, the incumbent will play a critical role in aligning operational delivery with the operations’ broader vision

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in senior operational leadership, ideally within the luxury tourism, hospitality, or game reserve sector, with at least 5 years in a multi-disciplinary management role.
  • Proven track record of leading hospitality operations at a premium standard, including lodge management, guest experience, and service excellence.
  • Strong exposure to conservation operations and ecological sustainability.
  • Demonstrated experience overseeing infrastructure, logistics, and technical services, ideally in complex, multi-site environments.
  • Proven ability to engage with stakeholders on all levels, including local communities, and development partners in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to develop, motivate, and retain high-performing teams within a South African context

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Environmental/ Conservation/ Biodiversity Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A relevant postgraduate qualification would be advantageous
